How I got here

I started in cycling in 1992 for dry land training with ski team here in Sun Valley Idaho.  It didn’t take long and I was hooked.  The next summer I got a part time job putting together bikes at Sun Summit South.  Back then it took all day for me to put together one bike.  The owner of the shop Chip was my major influence in mountain biking.  By the end of the summer I was full on in love with the sport and was ready to enter my first race, even though I got worked over I knew I had to try it again.  Through the rest of high school I raced ever chance I got and even traveled to a couple of NCS races.

This lead me to Lindsey Wilson College for my freshman year of college.  I never even visited the school, they had a mountain bike program and that was all it took, I was there.  For the most part it was a major growing experience that looking back I would not change, but while I was there it was a different story.  The main thing that happened that year was I met Shelley who I would marry about 5 years later.  Kentucky was not my favorite place so Shelley and I started the net chapter in our lives.

Durango here we come, so started the great years the I spent at Fort Lewis College.  Shortly after moving to Durango my coach at that time got me a pro license and I started hitting every major race I could afford plus even more that could not.  I spent my springs racing collegiate road, the summers racing the NORBA circuit, and the falls racing collegiate mountain bike.

After a few years, enough to just about become a doctor, I finally graduated and Shelley and I moved up to Idaho.  We came to the Wood River Valley to go in on a real estate venture with my parents.  In the end we flipped that house and made some money, but it was a trying experience.  Now we rent a small apartment in Ketchum that is in a really cool location until the developers come.  But we really want to own a house sooner rather than later.

Last summer coached the Road and Dirt Jr team, and worked with the kids day camps.  I finally was able to devote a very significant portion of my time to officially helping kids get on their bikes.

For 2009 this will be my 10th year racing pro.  My season plans are still developing .

I love this sport and want to spread this love of cycling.
